16 Stills | A Group Photography Experience

16 Stills highlights the work of four artists with Nigerian roots living in Houston creating harmony within the Black diaspora. Each shot highlights the rich culture of West Africa and Houston, showing viewers that tradition and modernism were meant to co-exist. The artists, Michael Onipede, Chino Angles, Hope Obadan, and Mani Olaniyan, received inspiration from artists like Renae McGree, Rafael Pavarotti, David Sims, and David LaChappelle. Their visions come together in a playful manner that allows us to see the past, present, and future of art, and they push the ideologies of contrast beyond the norms. Pieces like “The Sacrifice” and “Red Nala” highlight the contrast of realism and surrealism, and the creative synergy within the art scene of Houston.
