The Reading Room | Sinners

On Thursday, May 29th, The Reading Room hosted a salon discussing the score of Ryan Coogler's critically acclaimed movie, Sinners. Led by The Reading Room’s founder, Amarie Gipson, this event sparked very thought-provoking discussions surrounding the Mississippi Delta culture that Sinner’s immerses itself in.

The atmosphere of the event felt inviting and encouraging to participate in the salon, with parts of the score and other ambient music greeting the audience when they walked into the gallery.

The salon began with the audience listening to key tracks from Sinners and discussing the characters that the songs were either attached to or that the audience and Gipson were reminded of. Whether it was a discussion about the similarities and differences between Smoke and Stack, Annie’s use of hoodoo and other ATRs, or the importance of blues music, this salon spoke to many individuals in the crowd.

The event concluded with the audience asking questions and holding discussions about their favorite parts of the movie and score.
