Starting in 2018 Sanman was founded on the principle “see a need, meet a need” with a specific commitment to nurturing the young artistic talent in Houston. The SANMAN Art Residency program is focused specifically on supporting burgeoning visual arts talent in Houston. The fine arts world can be very restrictive, often stifling many artists early in their careers with educational and class barriers.
Our goal with this initiative is to provide dedicated and talented artists the space and tools needed to produce and promote their work. It encompasses a residency in which the residents receive a communal studio space where they can create in tandem with one another. Additionally, they have the opportunity to showcase in either a solo or group show.

Corey De'Juan Sherrard Jr. is a multidisciplinary artists who uses paintings, maps, and sound to connect the proximity of cities. Through his unique visual system he actualizes a political motif that answers to the deficit of radical black objectives in popular black music. These songs that are based off of said process are arranged to be reconstructed for live performances. Alongside exploring these methods, Sherrard seeks to extend his practice into works paying homage to the saxophone. He has engaged in generating saxophone studies materializing the texture of the saxophone's tonality, history, and black cultural impact in mediums such as clay, paint, photography and sound recordings.

Phalyn Honora is an experimental photographer from Houston, Texas who’s body of work explores her internal observations of the world. Using analog photography as her medium, Phalyn’s art is organic and intentional. Her process draws on her inner ruminations and sociological theories to frame her work. Honora creates despite the many systems that operate to challenge her existence and this is shown in her dynamic and thought provoking work.
One thing that Phalyn wants people to know about her is that she doesn’t define herself as an artist. She is less interested in labels and categories that can box in individuals, Phalyn believes that the moniker ‘artist’ be left for those who seek to be defined.
